Sharaabi Mutton Biryani - Authentic Biryani prepared with Cabernet Sauvignon (Red Wine)

Sharaabi Mutton Biryani is the biryani for red wine lovers. If for a change, you don't want to drink your wine in its regular form, but you still want to get drunk and take off your seat with your taste buds swirled out of their ecstatic silence, here is the world famous memorable food for you - the one and only Sharaabi Mutton Biryani.


First of all, go and pick up your favorite red wine from your favorite wine shop. It is recommended to go for a Cabernet Sauvignon. 

Approximate time
It takes approximately 60 minutes to prepare this delicacy.

How to prepare the rice?

Soak the 4 cups of rice in water for 15 minutes. After that, boil the rice in hot water for around 3 mins.

Remove the excess water and put this rice pot at your kitchen shelf, until the next steps.

What you need to collect as ingredients?

One kilogram of sliced mutton. Go for mutton legs, they would turn out to be the tastiest in this dish. 

Rice; quantity as specified above.

750 gms tomatoes. 

Two cup of finely sliced onions. Onions go very well with mutton biryani.

One bottle Red wine.

3 table spoon cooking oil. (Ghee can also be used)

Salted cashew nuts.

Salt, as per your taste buds say.

One table spoon of black pepper. 

4 to 5 Cardamoms. Mash them.

Steps to cook:


Make sure that the mutton is washed. Slice it, to allow the spices penetrate inside.

Add the Ghee in the pot, and then fry the sliced mutton along with onions in a deep pot. Add the salt as per your taste. Fry it on high heat for around 5 minutes. 
Now pour half of the red wine bottle in the chicken and let it heat at low flame for around 2 - 3 minutes.
Add the cardamom seeds along.

Now add the tomatoes and stir the dish.Add the black pepper, and then cover the pot. This time, reduce the flame to low heat.

Next, in a new big flat metallic pot, pour half of the rice. This is layer 1.

Put the entire mutton on top of it. This is layer 2.

Pour the remaining rice on top. This is layer 3.

Pour the remaining red wine on top of the rice. This is layer 4.

Cover the utensil/pot with a heavy metallic cover (or chakla). You may seal the top (optional) with wheat dough. Place this pot on a heavy flat metallic cooking plate (tawa). Let it heat on low flame for around 30 minutes.

After 30 minutes, your Sharaabi Biryaani is ready

Now eat and get drunk!
